Periscope camera is coming to iPhone in 2022

Apple plans to introduce the telephoto (Periscope) camera to the iPhone lineup of 2022, according to a research note presented by trusted analyst Ming-chi Kuo of TF Securities.
It is said that Semco, a South Korean company, will contribute autofocus engines to new iPhone models this year, along with the Chinese company Sunny Optical.

The analyst also explained that the South Korean company will provide a large proportion of the camera (Periscope) close up to about half the required amount.

Apple regularly uses parts from multiple suppliers to increase supply chain competition and reduce costs, and Kuo also believes that these companies will be able to offer high-quality components at a better performance.

Periscope cameras indicate the way you work, and end users will not see a design difference as the periscope camera does not stand out from the phone.

A telephoto (Periscope) camera is a way to enable long focal lengths in devices, such as smartphones, where the physical depth is at the highest level.

The camera uses prisms and mirrors along the device to reflect light and focus it on the sensor, instead of placing the sensor directly behind the lens as is the case with conventional cameras.

This technology has been largely pioneering in recent years through Chinese companies that have released phones with 5x zoom lenses, and Samsung joined the battle this year with the Galaxy S20 Ultra.

The Apple iPhone 7 Plus released in 2016 was the first flagship phone to add a secondary 2x telephoto lens, which the company also used to provide in-depth information for portraits.

Apple has not exceeded the 2x zoom range since then, despite the fact that competitors have expanded this idea, as some phones have added multiple telephoto lenses, for example: (Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro) contains conventional cameras with 2x and 3.7x focal lengths.

And if Apple is heading towards a telephoto (Periscope) camera, it will likely provide a 5x or more zoom range.

Huawei P40 Pro Plus has the highest optical access range of any current smartphone with a Periscope 10x camera.
